The Edmonton region is getting Canada’s first proton therapy treatment centre, named in honour Edmonton Oilers superfan, Ben Stelter(external link), who died of cancer in 2022. The Ben Stelter Centre for Proton Therapy and Neuroscience will be built by WestCan Proton Therapy Inc(external link).

The $120-million facility will create more than 250 jobs during construction and is expected to have 100 permanent positions once complete. The cutting-edge facility will improve patient outcomes and further positions the Edmonton region as a hub for health technology and research.
