Edmonton is J Scope’s home away from home.
He’s a singer and rapper from Ukraine. After the Russian invasion, J Scope and his family fled to Poland and then Sweden.
In 2023, they came to Edmonton. He’ll release his first made-in-Canada single, Welcome Home, this year.
“I did a lot of research before coming, looking at affordability and the arts scenes of different cities,” says J Scope, also known as Jerry.
“I moved to Edmonton because it’s a festival city. It’s an event city.”
More than 15,000 Ukrainians have moved to Edmonton since 2022.
Here’s J Scope’s story.
